I’ve been sitting on this one for a while, editing, manipulating, writing little by little. It think this is a series I would like to continue.
I believe in finding pleasure in the small things in life. The little “I love you” right before falling asleep next to my amazing wife, the smell of fresh brewed coffee first thing in the morning, the feeling of an oncoming rain in the air after a dry spell, a pair of warm socks.
I have compiled this list to remind myself that we live in a world where there is still so much to be grateful for. To take those things for granted just feeds into the already abundant negativity everywhere. Whether it be through social media, overheard on the public transit, or at work, or through direct conversation.
#1 My Wife
With all my pregnant craziness and hormonal moodiness, she still tells me how much she loves me, she tells me how beautiful and strong I am, she makes me feel like I am the only one in the room.
#2 Love Eyes
When cats show affection, they really know how to melt hearts.
My morning coffee is my one vice that I will not give up (now that I can stomach it again).
#4 Cotton Dresses
In my third trimester, pants are the enemy. Ok, more generally speaking, anything with a waistband is the enemy.
#5 My Cowboy Boots
I love them. They are so comfortable they fit perfectly to my feet, they give me an extra couple of inches of height, and they go with just about anything.
#6 Fresh Bedding
Few things beat the feeling sliding into of fresh, clean bedding. They feel crisp, they smell clean, and for a short time, they are free of cat hair. A very short time.
#7 Big Turtleneck Sweaters
Fall is my favorite time of year. Especially the transition from late summer to early fall. The leaves are changing from green to golden yellow, rich orange, and deep red. The afternoons are warm when the sun is out but the crisp air requires layers.
Bring on big turtleneck sweaters, cardigans, scarves, boots, coats, and let the hair down. The bigger the better.
#8 My Reading Nook
A couple pillows, a warm knitted blanket, instrumental music playing softly in the background, my tablet (preferred reading source), surrounded by my two cats, and I am set for an afternoon of reading and napping.
#9 Classical Piano
Having studied at the Royal Conservatory when I was a kid, I am particularly bias towards relaxing classical piano music.
#10 Afternoon Naps
A cozy reading nook + relaxing music + cats sleeping all around you = one hell of a good nap. Just sayin’.
